Personal History Born in Boston to Commander Michael Grey (retired) and Dr. Ellen Grey.  Taryn was a sick child.  Always ill his parents, both doctors by trade, had Taryn genetically enhanced.  The procedure, assisted by his father, went off without a hitch.  Taryn no longer got sick.  But there were other changes.  Taryn was faster then the other children, in every way.  He thought faster, ran faster, hit harder, lasted longer in games and races.  But with all this speed came a price.  Taryn had a temper, and combined with his enhanced abilities, this caused a great deal of trouble for the Commander and his wife.  Taryn was home schooled, quickly picking up math, science, anything he could get his hands on.  He learned quick and retained it all.  He was a good student, though always in trouble, mostly for fighting with other local boys.  Then, at sixteen, just before he was about to head off to the Academy in San Francisco to join Starfleet and become an officer like his father, Taryn was arrested for assaulting three men during a baseball game.  The three men were hospitalized, and one would later die.  Taryn was given his options, Enlist or do time.  As being an officer was now out of the question, Taryn enlisted in the marines.  It was the best decision he ever made.  The marines kicked that bad temper out of him, teaching him discipline and self control.  With his enhanced abilities (which his father worked hard to keep off his record), Taryn quickly rose through the ranks.  Eight years later, while aboard the U.S.S. Independence, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant for valor under fire after saving a fellow marine while fighting the Klingons, this also earned him his first commendation, the Starfleet Medal of Commendation.  The next eight years Taryn would see six more combat tours (During the last of which he would miss both his parent?s funerals).  By the time he'd served ten years, Taryn had fought Borg, Cardassians, Kilgons, Romulians, and other Humans.  Sick of war and fighting, Taryn transferred to Starfleet Command and served the eleven years quietly as a Chief Petty Officer in charge of tactics aboard the USS Endeavour (Awarded a Starfleet Extended Tour Ribbon).  After Wolf 359, for his outsanding performance, Taryn was sent to train at the Academy in Security/Tactics as well as Operations and in Intelligence.  Due to his superhuman ability to process information and retain data (thanks to his genetic enhancement) Taryn was able to finish in just two years what took most NCOs four.  In 2369 Taryn was transferred to DS 9, working as a security officer before offering to replace the chief petty officer in charge of science in the fall of ?69.  A years later he would be transferred to the Odyssey, where he was promoted to Senior CPO and served as head NCO of first tactics and then the science department (Filled the void when their Chief NCO of science was killed).  2370 would be a busy year for Taryn; he would be wounded in combat with Cardassian terrorists, then again by the Jem?Hadar, (Earning himself another Starfleet Medal of Commendation and the Star Cross for valor in combat, but also landing him back on DS 9 to heal from his wounds) before learning of the Odyssey?s destruction at the hands of the Jem?Hadar.  Fascinated by the Jem?Hadar warriors, Taryn signed on with a Starfleet task force in late 2370 to study the tactics, culture, and biology of these new foes (Awarded Dominion War Campaign Medal in 2375 for service during the war).  After three years with the task force he is given the honor of teach their findings at the academy in San Francisco.   Teaching at the Academy allowed Taryn time to take additional training, in the fields he had already studied as well as courses in the other fields as well. By the time he stopped teaching in '85, Taryn would have more NCO training, this time in Science.  Also while teaching, Taryn would attend Command School.  He'd been requiered to attend since making Senior CPO in '70, but hadn't been able to return to Earth.  The in April of '80, hid best friend died of an aneurism.  Taryn was devastated, but would continue with his career himself.  After eleven years of teaching tactics, unarmed combat, and special courses on the Jem'Hadar, and with Joseph now out of the Academy and serving aboard his old ship, the Endeavour, Taryn, sick of Earth and longing to be back aboard a starship requested transfer.
